Remarks: Donald Trump Presents a Trophy at the Irish Open in Doonbeg, Ireland - September 13, 2026

Well, thank you very much. This was an honor and Shane, uh, played unbelievable. You know, I went back last night and I was watching, uh, some of the news and they were showing him nine putts in a row. And I thought that was best of, meaning over the years [Laughs], just one putt after another. I guess it was nine in a row.

And he was unbelievable. But he also hit the ball really well too, a lot of other things. But he's a great guy. And what happened, I shouldn't say this, but I was with Shane last night and he's got an infectious personality. And, uh, we were talking, Rory was there, a lot of people were there. And I said, "You know, I'm supposed to leave this morning.

I was supposed to be out of here this morning, but I'm gonna stay and watch Shane win." And he did win. That's dangerous. I said, "Shane, I'm gonna stay and watch you win." A lot of people don't handle that very well, but he handled it. And you know, in the first hole the people went crazy. I was, everyone's very crazy.

He hits the perfect drive, great second shot, and he makes a birdie. Who does that? Nobody does that. So he can handle pressure. Uh, I do wanna say though that, uh, on behalf of my son, Eric and the whole Trump family, this is an honor. We're so proud. The whole Doonbeg and frankly, uh, Ireland itself has been so incredible, so inviting, and we're very honored by, uh, presenting you with a great course.

It's been great. I wanna, uh, s- -- mention one thing, Ishaq and I talked about it and Shane talked about it. And everybody's been bugging me. They saying, "Would you do me a favor? It's so unfair what's going on. Could you possibly take the tariffs off of Irish whiskey?" And I said, "On behalf of the United States of America, I am going to take the tariffs off of Irish whiskey.
