The National Park Service has repaired the fountain at Benjamin Banneker Park, which is named after the 18th century astronomer, mathematician, and surveyor. A free African American, Banneker assisted in surveying the boundaries for new federal capital, Washington, D.C. The park overlooks The Wharf in southwest DC."
